About Maree
Maree Delmar began practicing yoga in 2002 and has never looked back. “It changed my life and I’ve practiced ever since” she says. She has been teaching since completing her 200 hour training with Svastha Yoga NZ in Mt Eden in early 2010.
As yoga has been such a therapeutic force in her own life, this is her focus in teaching others. She wants to see yoga make a positive difference in people’s lives.
She went on to study towards the Diploma of Yoga Therapy with Ganesh Mohan (whose father A.G Mohan founded Svastha Yoga, India, and was also a long time personal student of Krishnamacharya) and is now practicing as a Yoga Therapist.
She has a particular interest in working with back pain, anxiety, depression and is starting to work with post birth trauma.
Maree also studied to teach Pre-natal yoga through Svastha Yoga NZ in 2010 and loves being able to contribute to the health and wellbeing of women and their babies during pregnancy and birth.
She is also currently training to teach Belly Dance for Birth and to be a Holistic pre birth educator (completion late 2016).
She has a husband and a two year old daughter and lives in West Auckland, in beautiful New Zealand.
Starting 2016 Tree of Life Yoga will be spending school holidays in New Plymouth, so Yoga Therapy sessions and some workshops will be on offer there.

About the yoga
Our classes grow their roots from the Svastha tradition. This is a classical style, with a very direct lineage back to Shri T. Krishnamacharya, who is often attributed with having ‘brought yoga to the west’ early last century. In addition to this Maree brings anything she has found beneficial from her own personal practice, reading, meditation, retreats and workshops, and her own personal health journey.
The style of the classes is very linked with the breath, generally using a series of simple but strengthening vinyasas (sequences), interspersed with stay postures and more challenging practices where appropriate. The asanas (postures) themselves are often simple, but through working with the breath, they become ever deeper.
"Breathing is the link between body and mind. The breath can lead the body towards wellness and the mind towards calmness."
- A.G Mohan, Krishnamacharya, His life and teachings.
There is a big emphasis on ‘the right yoga for the right person’ and the flip side of this is of course that not all yoga is right for everyone! Traditionally yoga was taught one to one with the student being given a practice that was at the level they were at, taking into account anything specific to them (age, physical fitness, experience, any injuries, etc). Our classes endeavour to teach appropriately for those attending, rather than a one size fits all approach. We will often give a variety of options within a posture, so that each person can find a version which suits them.
All classes include a variety of asana (postures), pranayama (breath work) and relaxation.
